			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>It wasn&#8217;t the ride that was hard, it was the length of it.  We finished 70 miles yesterday.  Thats a record high for myself and many others on the cycle team.</p>
<p>I think I owe alot of the success to my teach coach,<a href="http://www-public.slac.stanford.edu/phonebook/dirsearch.aspx?lf=1&amp;url=&amp;gone=active&amp;NAME=hamid" target="_blank"> Hamid Shoaee</a>.  He communicates very well and is always telling us what lies around the corner, so we can be prepared.</p>
<p>Some simple tips to survive a Century:</p>
<ul>
<li>Shift often, Shift early</li>
<li>Remember to eat and drink along the ride.  (Check your eating every 10 miles)</li>
<li>Get accustomed to your bike and food supplies before you get to the Century</li>
<li>No new food is good food, don&#8217;t experiment on Century day</li>
</ul>
<p>Inventory for a Century:</p>
<ul>
<li>Bike (3 rings, not 2)</li>
<li>Ride packs filled with<a href="https://www.worldpantry.com/cgi-bin/ncommerce3/ProductDisplay?prmenbr=1324037&amp;prrfnbr=1368758" target="_blank"> energy bars</a>, license, insurance card, cell phone, atm card.</li>
<li><a href="http://www.amazon.com/s/?ie=UTF8&amp;keywords=bento+box+bike&amp;tag=googhydr-20&amp;index=aps&amp;hvadid=1694710421&amp;ref=pd_sl_3ogu1cwp5b_b" target="_blank">Bento box</a> filled with <a href="http://www.guenergy.com/products/gu-roctane" target="_blank">GU</a>, and <a href="http://www.clifbar.com/food/products_shot_bloks/" target="_blank">SHOT bloks</a> -or- <a href="http://www.nabiscoworld.com/NEWTONS/" target="_blank">fig newtons</a></li>
<li>Two 24oz water bottles filled with water and <a href="http://www.cytosport.com/products/cytomax/ctomax-powders" target="_blank">Cytomax</a></li>
<li><a href="http://www.camelbak.com/index.cfm" target="_blank">Camelback</a> filled with water and Cytomax</li>
<li>Layered riding clothes (its cold in the morning, hot in the afternoon)</li>
<li>A <a href="http://www.rei.com/brand/Bike+Peddler" target="_blank">mirror</a> so you can see cars and your paceline behind you</li>
<li><a href="http://www.bellbikehelmets.com/" target="_blank">Helmet</a><a href="http://www.bellbikehelmets.com/products.asp" target="_blank"> </a>(these are one-time use if they hit something)</li>
<li><a href="http://www.sidiusa.com/road.html" target="_blank">Cleats</a></li>
